In-person evaluations · Rockland County, NY
Wheelchair evaluations, done in person
A power chair only works when it fits your body, your goals, and your home. That's why MedEquipped starts with an in-person evaluation — the foundation everything else is configured from.
What an evaluation covers
Three things we look at closely
- Mobility goals — where you want to go and what you want to do
- Clinical needs — posture, support, and control requirements
- Home & access — doorways, thresholds, turning space, terrain
What we learn here becomes the specification for your custom chair.

What's included
What an in-person evaluation includes
An evaluation is a structured conversation and assessment that turns your real situation into a clear picture of the equipment you need.
Rather than starting from a product, we start from you. We talk through how you move now, what's getting harder, and what you want to be able to do — at home, around your neighborhood, and beyond. We look at the clinical picture that shapes seating and control choices, and we consider the spaces you use every day, because a chair that can't clear a doorway or turn in a hallway isn't the right chair, no matter how capable it is on paper.
The areas we assess
A thorough evaluation typically covers:
- Mobility goals — the daily activities and destinations that matter to you.
- Clinical needs — posture, positioning, strength, endurance, and the support that keeps you safe and comfortable.
- Drive control — the input method you can operate reliably, and where it should sit.
- Home layout & accessibility — doorway widths, thresholds, turning space, floor surfaces, and outdoor terrain.

Why in person
Why an in-person visit matters for a proper fit
Posture, reach, transfers, and the way you steer are hard to capture from a form. Seeing them in person — and seeing the spaces you actually move through — is how the details that make a chair usable get caught early, rather than after delivery. A fit that's slightly off can mean discomfort, pressure, or a chair that can't get where you need it to go.
- Seating and support can be matched to your real posture
- Drive controls can be placed for how you actually reach and grip
- The chair can be checked against your real doorways and turns
- Small mismatches are caught before they become daily problems

Common questions
Wheelchair evaluations — the basics
What happens during an evaluation?
We review your mobility goals, assess your clinical needs like posture and control, and consider your home layout and accessibility. The result is a clear picture of the equipment that fits you, which becomes the specification for a custom chair.
Why does it have to be in person?
Posture, reach, transfers, and how you steer are hard to capture from a form, and the chair has to work in your real doorways and turning spaces. Seeing all of that in person is how a proper fit is achieved and mismatches are caught early.
What should I have ready?
It helps to think about your daily goals and the spots at home that are hardest to navigate, and to have your relevant clinical information and insurance details available. We'll guide the rest during the visit.
What happens after the evaluation?
We turn the findings into a chair specification and outline the funding path — identifying the funding source, documenting medical need, and coordinating the prior authorization — so configuration and coverage move together.
Let's get your mobility freedom moving.
